ABSTRACT

Aim

The present study describes the therapeutic options for first permanent molars with hypomineralisation among Mexican dentists.

Methods

We used a cross-sectional design in which we surveyed Mexican dentists through an electronic questionnaire. The questionnaire consisted of 20 questions, divided into two sections. The first section collected demographic data. The second section consisted of eight questions and focused on presenting a clinical MIH case documented with photographs and radiograph.

Results

The results show that Mexican dentists tend to use minimally invasive treatments, even in cases of molars with severe hypomineralisation. Among the dentists surveyed, basic information on the treatment of teeth with enamel fracture is lacking, and adequate knowledge is also lacking regarding the optimal timing for extractions in cases of severe hypomineralisation.

Conclusion

Despite the high incidence of MIH in Mexico, the surveyed dentists showed deficiencies in terms of the knowledge that should accompany clinical competence for the treatment of molars with MIH.

Study Design

A cross-sectional study was conducted based on an anonymous survey using Google’s online survey system (Google Forms Questionnaire).
